14:0014088Within 100m14070Sunny14074Calm114101Not recorded14098AdultThe seal was large and very dark in colour. Seal was very playful/curious following me on my paddleboard all the way around Old Harry. I sit on a secluded beach (about 200metres around Old Harry towards Swanage) and the seal was "bottling" for an hour (I was on the beach reading my book). The seal then followed me mostly back to middle beach.

I was concerned that they might be caught in nets as they were surprisingly static. Neither seemed distressed, and I was able to see their full bodies at one point and no evidence of trouble. They appeared healthy, and as curious about my presence as I was at theirs. At no point did I do anything to disturb them other than watch. They appeared very calm just surfacing and bobbing and watching. They were still there after I left.

14:1514088Within 100m14070Sunny14076Rough114101Not recorded14098Adult14094DivingI was in a kayak, it would have his head above water then go under for a while then popped up closer to me. It wasnt scared, looked at me then carried on doing its own thing. About 20ft away from me. Based on the forehead shape (looked a bit like a dog) id say it was a common, not grey seal. Though its colour did seem grey. It was a beautiful surprise encounter.
