We were stood on the cliff edge above chapmans pool and we’re too far away to confirm a sighting but believe the seals were along the shore line below the cliff

15:3014088Within 100m14071Cloudy14074Calm114101Not recordedGetting very close to swimmers, surfers and canoes, as well as getting within 2 meters of the shore. Seemed very inquisitive, following swimmer and canoes very closely. Apparently unusual to have them this close accord to rangers. Swimmers were advised to leave the water (with little effect) when the seal appeared. And dog owners were told to not allow their dogs into the water (also with little effect!). Unsure of species, seemed smaller than a grey and my videos are poor for me to identify.

I was concerned that they might be caught in nets as they were surprisingly static. Neither seemed distressed, and I was able to see their full bodies at one point and no evidence of trouble. They appeared healthy, and as curious about my presence as I was at theirs. At no point did I do anything to disturb them other than watch. They appeared very calm just surfacing and bobbing and watching. They were still there after I left.
