16:1314088Within 100m14070Sunny114101Not recorded14093Bottling/resting in the waterIt appeared much blacker and bulkier than most seals I have been able to compare it with. It spent several minutes always vertical in the position shown apparently breathing through an open mouth before slowly submerging for another few minutes and popping up again a little further (15m) along the coast.

Seal then swam underwater, resurfacing further up the shore (heading towards Poole). 99% certain it was a grey seal rather than a common seal.

10:3014088Within 100m14070Sunny14074Calm114102Male14098Adult14105Swimming - travellingI was swimming from Eype to Seatown when a large male repeatedly bumped me from below, emerged alongside me and bit/nibbled at my ankles and feet. This continued for around 15 mins causing me to change route and head inland between the two points if headland . It followed me in but did not come ashore with me.

08:0014088Within 100m14070Sunny14074Calm114102Male14098Adult14093Bottling/resting in the waterFirst time we have seen a grey seal around Portland - a very large, solitary adult male that was bottling at the surface and occasionally dove down, presumably to forage. Sea was milky / bad visibility and some churn but not too choppy.

The seal kept popping up out of the water and almost playing with us - he came within one metre of us and swam underneath our boards. This went on for 20mins approx. It was magical!

It seemed to be playing and was not disturbed or wary of quite a number of people watching from the beach. A dog barked but was restrained. The seal beached itself and was rolling in the surf. We watched from the cliff top for about 10 minutes. The photos we took do not give much detail as too far away. I will attempt to send one.can get it from phone to iPad.
